About the Alma Matter

Holy Cross College, a name that echoes with history, pride, and the transformative journey of thousands of women, celebrates 60 years of empowering generations.

Established on November 1, 1950, by the Sisters of the Holy Cross under the visionary leadership of Sister Augustine Marie, the college was built on a foundation of strong values, academic excellence, and a commitment to nurturing responsible, compassionate women.

What began with just five students has grown into a vibrant community of over 2,500, with a faculty dedicated to the intellectual and moral growth of each individual.

From its humble beginnings in the Humanities to the addition of the Science and Business Studies faculties, Holy Cross College has continually evolved to meet the needs of its students.

The college’s enduring motto, “Gentle in manner, Strongly in deed,” continues to guide its alumnae, who are making meaningful contributions in every sphere of society.

The Holy Cross College Alumnae Association remains a proud and active network, upholding the legacy of this prestigious institution and fostering connections among its graduates.

Sister Shikha Gomes, CSC.

Principal, Holy Cross College

At Holy Cross College, we embrace the challenges of our rapidly changing world with courage and determination, ready to take necessary risks to fulfill our mission.

Reflecting on the wisdom of our founding principal, Sister Augustine Marie, who reminded us that “no one works alone, therefore, no one succeeds alone,” we recognize that our collective efforts are vital. True happiness lies in our commitment to serve and educate young women, fostering a spirit of collaboration.

I am heartened to see the impactful activities of the Alumnae Association, as they work alongside us to enhance the lives of our students, society, and nation. Together, we are creating a brighter future, and I wish the Association every success in their endeavors. Let us continue this journey of empowerment and service, hand in hand.
